Ballack saved the German team Von Joachim Herbert, 16.06.2008

The German team reached at least their minimum goal, the quarter finals. A poor 1:0 over Austria after a free-kick from captain Michael Ballack lead Germany into the next round. It was Ballacks goal number 37 in his 84th game for the German national team.

So now Portugal is waiting. The team with superstar Christiano Ronaldo at their head will be much more difficult to play for the Germans, who are only the underdog in this game. An unfamiliar role for the triple European Champion, but may be here´s the chance for Joachims Löws team. Most of the fans expect Portugal to win, so Germany has nothing to loose and can play very relaxed.

    Die Deutschen müssen sich auf jeden Fall steigern und Ihre Defizite im Abwehrverhalten abstellen, sowie die große Lücke zwischen Sturm und Mittelfeld schneller überbrücken. Wenn sie die Chancen effizienter nutzen und dem Sturm die Gefährlichkeit der WM 2006 wieder erlangen können, müssen sie niemanden fürchten. Ich denke das Potenzial ist eigentlich vorhanden, ein wenig Glück gehört sicherlich auch dazu. Den besten Eindruck machen allerdings momentan die Holländer, die als sehr geschlossene Mannschaft in Erscheinung getreten sind.

    Great match, … and if we would have a striker who deliveres, we would be a threat even to Portugal. Unfortunately, we don’t have a striker. Gomez seems to struggle with his nerves, … oh my god, what a chance!!! … and Klose looks pretty lost without connection to his team mates. For both applies the name of this website: The only way is up!

    Ballack seems to be in his prime and if Jansen stays on the bench the defence looks less vulnerable. But if they are strong enough to keep Ronaldo under control remains to be seen. I’m looking forward to this showdown!!!
